Rapid City, South Dakota
An upper level ridge stuck over the central and southern plains has produced a "Ring of Fire" for the Rocky Mountains and northern high plains. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms continue to develop each afternoon over the higher terrain of Colorado and Wyoming as well as the Black Hills of South Dakota. In the Nebraska panhandle, the activity evolved into an MCS 4 consecutive nights. Although most of the storms have been multicellular due to weak flow, storms are occasionally reaching severe criteria by producing large hail and strong winds. The lightning displays associated with these storms have been quite impressive.
