6.30.01
Rapid City, South Dakota

Severe thunderstorms developed over eastern Wyoming and western South Dakota as a weak short wave moved over the area.  A storm that formed over the Black Hills earlier in the afternoon produced 1.75 inch hail in Hill City causing damage to vehicles and campers.  A multicellular thunderstorm started to develop north of Ellsworth AFB around 530 pm.  By 630 pm, the storm was well organized and had a classic supercell appearance.  It remained strong for about 1/2 hour before rapidly dissipating.
